The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program is the National Society of Black Engineers' effort to promote college, academics, technology and leadership to pre-college students. Our primary focus is to encourage students in grade 6-12 to develop interest and skills in math and science. Our goals include:
Each student in PCI is given the opportunity to interact with college students and learn as they prepare for the very challenging and upcoming transition to college. For those who haven't thought much about college, PCI gives them the exposure and introduces the engineering, science, math, and other technical career disciplines.
Students are prepared for the competitive process of filling out college applications, applying for scholarships, taking the SATs, and selecting schools. PCI allows students to tour college campuses, work on science and engineering projects, and develop a positive attitude towards academic excellence. Members are also provided unique scholarship opportunities to cover their college costs. Students will leave with a greater awareness of what opportunities await them after high school, and they will gain friends and mentors to support their academic and social lives.
